Thanks to the potential of <strong>stem cells<\/strong>, there are now therapies that are already a reality in hospitals and clinics around the world. These therapies are applied mainly in the field of <strong>hematology, immunology, and regenerative medicine<\/strong>, with results that have changed the lives of thousands of patients.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this blog, we explain which diseases are already treated with stem cells, both in <strong>approved and well-established<\/strong> therapies and in those that are in <strong>advanced clinical research<\/strong> phases.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Blood and bone marrow diseases<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stem cells from umbilical cord blood are widely used to <strong>restore damaged or diseased bone marrow<\/strong>. They are used in transplants to treat: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Leukemias<\/strong> (acute and chronic): they replace cancerous cells with healthy stem cells that regenerate the marrow.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Lymphomas<\/strong>: they help reconstitute the immune system after aggressive treatments such as chemotherapy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Severe anemias<\/strong> (such as Fanconi anemia or aplastic anemia).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Myelodysplastic syndromes<\/strong>: diseases in which the marrow produces defective cells.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These therapies are well established and have demonstrated efficacy in children and adults for more than 30 years.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Rare metabolic and genetic diseases<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are inherited metabolic diseases that affect the functioning of vital organs.
